Breeder Animals / Our Collection

A rundown of the animals that will be used as breeders. View photos at the bottom of the page. Photos may not be used in any way, duplicated, or linked without permission and are copyright OphidiaGems (L. Madar).

Warhol -
Warhol is a possible super (dominant) hypomelanistic Colombian Boa Constrictor (Boa Constrictor Imperator), as his parents were both hypos. He was obtained as a baby from Rio Grande Reptiles, and was bred by DMExotics (born in June 2006). Warhol has very deep wine-red markings and a very uniquely diagonally-striped tail. His colors are rich and dark. He will be bred to Washu, our F3 hypo. Hopefully the combination of his deep, saturated colors and her clean, bright colors will make outstanding possible supersalmon babies in 2007 or 2008.

Washu -
Washu is an extraordinary F3 (Third Generation) hypomelanistic Colombian Boa Constrictor (Boa Constrictor Imperator). She was obtained as a baby in 2005 from breeder Marc Bailey. When she has freshly shed, her coloration is extremely high-contrast - some say she might be mistaken for a sunglow at a distance. Washu's saddles are bowtie-shaped, bright orange/red. She has a high amount of pink coloration throughout her body, especially noticible in her cheeks and tail. She has a super-clean background - the amount of "speckles" she has can be counted on one's fingers. Her disposition is incredibly laid-back. She'll hang out watching TV with us. She should produce some outstanding youngsters. She will be of breeding age in 2007, and she will be bred to Warhol, our possible supersalmon male.

Escher -
The animal that started our addition to Boas! Escher was obtained as an adult (born in 2000 or 2001) in early 2004 from KCRD (Kansas City). He is exceptionally colored for a Hog Island Boa - he has a high amount of pink, orange and blue througout his body, a very orange belly, and a unique tail. His tail, rather than possessing clearly defined "saddles" as most BCI and Hog Islands do, looks "scrambled" - almost like a granite pattern. He has a couple of more normal looking saddles at the very tip of his tail, and he has more normal-looking saddles on the first 2/3rds of his body. Escher is extremely tame, and a small example of Hog Island, measuring less than 4 feet long. The blues, oranges and pinks that appear on his sides and belly should make for some great looking baby hog island boas.

Ermy -
While Ermy the Ball Python (Python Regius) is not currently part of our breeding plans, we had to mention him, as he was our first snake. Obtained as a baby in 2003, Ermy is our Ambassador of Snakedom - extremely tame and gently inquisitive, his "puppyish" looks have gotten more than a few acquaintances over their fear of snakes, just by being himself! Who couldn't love that ducky little face? He's "just" a normal, but he's our loyal mascot.

Pair of Surinam BCC (true redtails) - Foo and Sal -
We obtained two adult (born early 2003) Surinam redtailed boas in the fall of 2006. These were originally purchased from Ben Siegel in Florida. Recent photos coming soon they should produce some outstanding colorful babies. Both have beautiful pinkish coloration and deep, rusty blood red tails. This pair is currently breeding and offspring should be available in summer 2008.

Pair of Saharan Sand Boas -
Obtained as (approximately) 6-year-old long term captive adults in 2007, these interesting little boas lay eggs! The eggs are very fragile and hatch in only two weeks (they are kept within the mother's body for most of gestation).

Daisy -
Obtained as a baby in September 2007, Daisy the Ball Python is the newest addition to our collection. Someday, she may be Ermy's girlfriend. She's got a great, lovable personality, too.
